The Alaska Geobotany Center (AGC) at the Institute of Arctic Biology is seeking a part-time, temporary Administrative Assistant with a diverse range of skills to join our research lab. Working independently and as apart of a team, this position will contribute to the success of AGC's mission through involvement in nearly all aspects of our work: 1) Publications and websites: Help disseminate research findings by assisting in the preparation of academic manuscripts and data reports and by updating website and databases; 2) Office Organization and Team Coordination: Foster effective collaboration by creating a well-organized workspace and managing team resources, 3) Procurement and Hiring: Contribute to the smooth functioning of the lab by coordinating the purchase of supplies and assisting in hiring and onboarding; and 4) Field Research Preparation and Travel Coordination: Contribute to the success of research by assisting in fieldwork preparations and coordinating travel arrangements.

As our Administrative Assistant, you will become an integral part of our small research lab engaged in arctic vegetation science and geobotanical mapping. Located in the Arctic Health Research Building on West Ridge, our lab currently includes several research faculty, 1-2 staff and 1-2 graduate students. Our current research is focused on studying landscape evolution in ice-rich permafrost systems in Prudhoe Bay and Point Lay, Alaska. We are also actively engaged in several long-term initiatives to promote international collaboration in arctic vegetation data frameworks and in research to promote sustainable arctic infrastructure. The Administrative Assistant will help to organize an international conference of arctic vegetation scientists in 2025.

To thrive in this role, a candidate will possess strong organizational and communication, be detail-oriented, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Google apps (Gmail, Calendar, Drive), and Zoom is required to succeed. While not mandatory, familiarity with website authoring tools (HTML, PHP, MySQL, CSS), database management (CKAN), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), and knowledge of university processes will be beneficial for the role.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of related experience or degree work that is equivalent.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks. This is a part-time, non-exempt temporary position.
