Assistant or Associate Professor of Veterinary Medicine

The Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position for veterinarians with interest or experience in gastrointestinal, nutrition, and internal medicine. We are seeking a team-orientated faculty member to enthusiastically instruct students and develop new curriculum content related to nutrition and gastroenterology in Fairbanks, where phenomenal outdoor recreational opportunities exist year round. Applicants with board certification in Internal medicine or nutrition are encouraged to apply. Ideal applicants would have extensive high quality clinical experience. The position is expected to begin by the start of the Spring 2025 semester.

 

As a Department of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) faculty you would be joining a diverse group of colleagues in curriculum development and instruction of a small cohort of first and second-year veterinary students. The UAF DVM does not have a teaching hospital or conventional clinical obligations. The primary role of this position is for instruction and curriculum development. The applicant will take a leadership role for course material in nutrition, internal medicine, and gastroenterology, with potential involvement in other topics. This faculty appointment may include research if interest and qualifications align. Opportunities may exist for collaborative research. Other faculty contribute to research topics such as infectious disease surveillance, one health, sled dog medicine, toxicology, and aquatic animal health. Opportunities to mentor and advise graduate students are also available. New faculty in the DVM will join a small teaching team that works closely with faculty at Colorado State University to deliver our 2+2 DVM curriculum. The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring veterinary students, extensive veterinary clinical experience, and additional skills in nutrition, gastroenterology, metabolism, and internal medicine.

 

To thrive in this role you must be enthusiastic about the education of students, be able to collaborate with colleagues, and be willing to contribute to curriculum development. A commitment to delivering a high quality educational experience is essential. Board certification or residency training in nutrition or internal medicine is highly desired but not required. Candidates with an interest and broad clinical experience including these topics are encouraged to apply. You must be comfortable providing lab sessions with live animals, simulators, and cadaver material. The ideal candidate would have advanced training, clinical experience, teaching experience, and enthusiasm for joining a small team and living in the small community of Fairbanks, Alaska.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Applicants must possess a D.V.M.(or equivalent international degree), and/or Ph.D. or equivalent degree(s) in a related field(s). Clinical experience required (general clinical practice or specialist practice are acceptable). Advanced training in veterinary nutrition or internal medicine (internship, residency) and teaching experience are highly desired. Licensure or eligibility for licensure in the State of Alaska is desired, but not required.

 

Position Details:

 

This position is located on the Troth Yedda campus in Fairbanks, AK.
