The Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for service, repair, and maintenance of heavy construction vehicles and equipment within a shop and field environment.  The position is based out of Anchorage, Alaska but travels to/from remote job sites with regular deployment to Utqiagvik (Barrow), Alaska.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect, diagnose, order parts and complete repairs to construction vehicles and equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, end dumps, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, water trucks, and miscellaneous non-mobile and light duty equipment.
  • Conduct diagnostic scan and reporting using automotive software in completion of repairs and maintenance. 
  • Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.
  • Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools, and instruments.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
  • Communicate needed repairs and level of action required to Shop Foreman / Superintendent. 
  • Complete field requisitions for materials and parts required for completion of repairs. 
  • Perform welding repairs as needed for completion of repairs. 
  • Support HSE processes and Haz-Req programs. Assume personal accountability and responsibility to ensure all tasks are performed safely. 
  • Present safety concerns to Leadership’s attention. 
  • Travel to / from remote locations and job sites with regular rotational deployment expected to Utqiagvik (Barrow), Alaska.  Deployment to all locations will vary in duration depending on business needs but could last for more than two weeks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Familiarity with hazardous waste regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with a variety of interpersonal relationships and situations.
  • Ability to work varying hours with overtime as needed, including weekends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with current medical card and an acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain or provide HAZMAT certification upon request. 
  • Five (5) years’ related experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction vehicles and equipment. 
  • Ability to work outside and/or a cold environment for long durations.

 

Preferred

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License w/ HAZMAT Certification

The work environment is in a busy construction setting. The noise level in the work environment usually varies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
