Job Overview:

 

Lead Environmental Scientist with 10+ years of experience in environmental investigation and remediation projects, preferably for United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), US Air Force or other federal and state government agencies. Prospective candidates must have experience with site investigation, characterization, and remediation projects regulated by ADEC and/or EPA. The work schedule will be a combination of office, urban and field.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the Project Manager and Site Superintendent in developing work plans and
  • Collaborates with the site Superintendent to execute approved work
  • Serves as technical lead for environmental scientists and other technical staff in data collection, site investigation, evaluation of data collected, and remediation activities to support project objectives.
  • Conducts site reconnaissance, including sampling
  • Conducts field surveys using Trimble and Rover or
  • Prepare deliverables with quality supporting documentation (proposals, work plans, interim deliverables, and reports).

Required Skills:

  • Must have experience in environmental fieldwork in remote settings including excavation work (Alaska experience preferred)
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft office products
  • Must have excellent note taking skills
  • Must be able to work in a team setting
  • Must be highly organized

Education & Certifications:

  • BS in a science or engineering
  • Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) Qualified Sampler

Position requirements:

  • Pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and/or random drug screen
  • Pre-employment criminal background history check
  • Must have or be willing to obtain 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
  • HAZWOPER physical and respirator fit test
  • Ability to work in remote settings in Alaska for weeks at a time
  • Ability to work in harsh conditions

Physical Demands:

Works inside and outside. Ability to bend, reach, lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Can work effectively and safely in cold conditions. Most of the field work will occur during the summer or fall. May require travel in helicopter, aircraft, ATVs, and watercraft for short periods of time.
