Position Summary:

The Wilson Alaska Technical Center (WATC) (https://watc.alaska.edu/) is looking for a dynamic person to join our team to perform seismic and acoustic research and operations. WATC has a unique mix of geophysical station operations and research. This position will perform research to help optimize station performance, including an emphasis on data quality monitoring of both seismic and infrasound stations. This position will assist with station operations and will occasionally travel to field sites. The successful applicant will primarily execute research and development to help optimize station performance and data quality, as well as assist with basic research on seismic and acoustic data.*This recruitment is open internally to current UA employees or those otherwise eligible to apply to internal postings.

To thrive in this role the applicant will need an interest and expertise in analyzing geophysical data and identifying geophysical station problems. They will need to employ and develop scientific programming and analysis tools on a daily basis. They will also need to work collaboratively with other analysts to accurately and effectively convey information to engineers maintaining the geophysical stations.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

B.S. in Geophysics and at least 1 year of research or operational experience in Geophysics or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in analyzing infrasound and seismic data. Experience in Python scientific programming.

 

Position Details:

 

This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office on the first day of employment.
