Substitute Sexual Assault Response Advocate

Responsibilities
● Interact with clients and staff members in a manner that is respectful and empowering
● Consistent and dependable attendance
● Attend all mandatory staff meetings, program meetings, and trainings
● Present a professional demeanor to the community through appearance, communication,
and presentation
Essential Functions
Advocacy
● Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Alaska Statute 18.66.200
● Maintain a working knowledge of Federal and State laws that affect victims of sexual
assault
● Provide on call SART response locally as requested by forensic nurses or law
enforcement
● Facilitate or co-facilitate groups as needed
● Provide back-up as necessary for court advocacy
● Hold regular meetings with department employees
● Assess the needs of clients and make appropriate community referrals
● Maintain accurate records and submit reports in a timely manner
Minimum Qualifications
● Associate’s degree in human services or a closely related field; sufficient job, school, or
life experience may be used in lieu of the degree
● Excellent interpersonal, group, and written communication skills
● Ability to handle sensitive issues in a mature, confident manner with integrity and
compassion
● Commitment to agency's mission and goals
● Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and lifestyles
● Ability to pass background check
● Valid Alaska Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
● Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work or a related field
● Knowledge of Alaskan Cultures, Fairbanks community, and other social service agencies
● Work or life experience in the field of domestic violence or sexual assault, including
trainings and/or certificates in these fields
Supervision: Directly responsible to the Prevention Director
Hours: This job is meant to cover available shifts for Sexual Assault Response that the
Prevention Advocates and Shelter Advocates are unable to cover. The response hours for this
position are not expected to meet full-time requirements. Available hours will vary by week
based on the availability of all trained staff. This job requires evening, holiday, and flexible
availability. Shifts will together provide 24 hour on-call coverage.
Salary: Range 23 Non-Exempt ($20.90-$23.51) while responding. Every 8-hour on-call shift is
compensated with a $20 stipend if the responder is not activated.
