Position Summary:
Join the botany team at the University of Alaska Museum of the North and explore all the museum collections in time. The museum is recruiting for a full time temporary position to synchronize UA Museum of the North collection records with National Park Service records. This is a unique opportunity to learn about all the museum's collections and work within each one.
The University of Alaska Museum of the North holds the physical specimens for natural history collections made in Alaska National Parks. The Museum uses the Arctos collections management system to manage metadata about these collections, while the National Park Service (NPS) keeps its own full metadata for the collections in a different database. Over the years, the contents of these two data systems have diverged, as new identifications, annotations and other changes have been made in Arctos. This position will work to synchronize records in these two data systems using an existing pipeline of informatics tools. Work will progress through each National Park in turn (17 total) first within the botanical collections, then moving to other disciplines.
