Position Summary:
The Political Science Department at the University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Political Science position to begin August 2024. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate- and graduate-level courses, develop an active research program and contribute to service at the Department and University level. We seek candidates who demonstrate: 1) an excellence of teaching at the university level, 2) producing peer-reviewed, academic publications, 3) intellectual leadership in the university and in the state of Alaska, 4) strong background or grounding (but not research or teaching specialization) in Political Philosophy and the ability to represent the department and the university to administrators, public officials, and the public.
The major program in Political Science offers courses in four sub-fields of Political Science; International Relations, Comparative Politics, Political Philosophy and American Government. The teaching component of the workload will be upper division courses in Comparative Politics and International Relations as well as Introduction to Political Science, delivered both online and in-person.
The Political Science department is small and the candidate who fills the position is expected to be a generalist, capable of successfully teaching upper or lower division courses in any of the four sub-fields, as needed.
The candidate who fills the position will be expected to maintain an active research agenda in any of the four sub-fields, that complements existing research in the department.
The position will be expected to provide university, professional, and community service. Service to the department will include assistance with the recruitment of students from within and without the university, into major and minor programs in Political Science.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Political Science or closely related field.
Length of time and type of experience required for this position should be appropriate to the rank of tenure track assistant professor. Applicants must have university-level teaching experience.

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is an in-person position located on the Anchorage campus; remote work is not available for this position.
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage, and representation under a Collective Bargaining Unit. The expected start date will be in August 2024. Salary will be based upon applicable academic preparation and experience.
