Position Summary:
The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geological Sciences with emphasis in Structural Geology position, to start August 2024. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate- and graduate-level courses, develop an active research program and contribute to service at the Department and University level. We seek candidates who demonstrate: 1) an aptitude for teaching, with emphasis on student engagement, 2) success in research and involving students in research (esp MS level students), and 3) a strong desire to work in a team to meaningfully contribute to Department and University activities such as outreach, curriculum development, and synergistic research. The Department of Geological Sciences offers a BS in Geological Sciences and MS in Applied Geological Sciences.

The Department of Geological Sciences offers a BS in Geological Sciences and MS in Applied Geological Sciences. Our program prepares students to join a vibrant community of geoscientists working in Energy, Mining, Environmental, Geotechnical and Research Centers.

Postdoctoral or equivalent experience and evidence of independent funding.
Specialization in the sub-discipline of Structural Geology or closely-related field.
Some industry experience and/or interest in working with local industry (i.e., mining, oil/gas, or research institutions).
Integration of geophysical techniques.
Experience and interest in teaching lower and upper division Geological Sciences courses.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in geology, geological sciences or related field is required.

Length of time and type of experience required for this position should be appropriate to the rank of tenure track assistant professor. Applicants must have university-level teaching experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is an in-person position located on the Anchorage campus; remote work is not available for this position.

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage, and representation under a Collective Bargaining Unit. The expected start date will be in August 2024. Salary will be based upon applicable academic preparation and experience. Opportunities for summer teaching are available.
