The Light Duty Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining light diesel construction vehicles and equipment. This position may supervise apprentice workers engaged in vehicle and equipment repair work. All mechanics will be performing preventive maintenance, support, troubleshooting, and repairing all systems on Ford Pickups, heaters, generators, air compressors, light towers and welders. As a light duty mechanic, you will be required to generate work orders, keep accurate records reflecting maintenance and repair activity performed, assist in scheduling maintenance, perform warranty repairs and be able to follow correct warranty claim paper work procedures. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (AND OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED)

 

  • Inspect light vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.

  • Repair light construction vehicles and equipment such as large volume pumps and compressors, passenger vans, light duty pickup trucks, welding trucks, medium duty service trucks, and other auxiliary equipment.

  • Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, breaks, suspension, steering, and transmissions.

  • Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools and instruments.

  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.

  • Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.

  • Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.

  • Maintain vehicle maintenance records.

  • Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and the general work area.

  • Supervise apprentice workers engaged in light vehicle and equipment repair work. 

  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.

  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) or more years of Ford diesel pickup experience with knowledge in troubleshooting and repairing of support equipment is required. Candidate must possess the knowledge and craft skills to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and accomplish ( minor and major ) repairs on equipment to include but not limited to Ford 4x4 diesel pickups, Ingersoll Rand / Sullair air compressors, Wacker / Allmand light towers, Magnum / MQ generators with some Lincoln welders. 

 

CERTIFICATIONS

North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification and valid driver’s license required.

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:                                                               

 

  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy. 

  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.                         

  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.

  • Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.
