Investigative Reporter Fill-in Anchor


The Investigative Reporter/Fill-In Anchor is responsible for developing, investigating, writing, reporting and editing stories of interest.  Must generate story and source contacts, and enterprise stories on a daily basis. Delivers reports of high visual and ethical standards, using creative ideas and live-news capabilities. Coverage is on-air, live or taped and on-line. The role also requires shooting and editing his/her own video and serving as an Anchor, as assigned.



Job Requirements


  • 5 years reporting and previous anchor experience mandatory

  • Strong news writing and research skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to write in a clear, concise, and conversational manner
  • Commanding and personable anchor presence
  • Demonstrate solid news judgment
  • Maintain strong journalistic ethics
  • Strong attention to details
  • Intermediate level knowledge of ENPS or other newsroom software
  • Basic knowledge of web posting and digital content management software; specific knowledge of Clickability is a plus
  • Ability to navigate and conduct online research using various search engines
  • Ability to stay current with national and local news/weather
  • Intermediate level knowledge of social media
  • Must be able to report “live” from the field during reports and from the set while anchoring, including the ability to ad-lib during breaking news
  • Basic ability to shoot and edit video
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrate leadership through training and mentoring less experienced staff members
  • Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment



  • Bachelor’s degree required


  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Essential Functions:

  • Anchor newscasts in a clear, energetic and informative manner
  • Research, investigate, gather, write and report news stories
  • Enterprise stories from assigned geographical and subject-area beat
  • Maintain contacts and knowledge about assigned beats and conduct regular beat checks
  • Conduct interviews in the field and on-set
  • Collaborate with photographers and editors to produce the best stories visually
  • Report “live” on the scene
  • Enterprise and produce packages for sweeps periods
  • Attend and contribute in daily editorial meetings
  • Post and update stories on the web
  • Post extended interviews, raw video and photo galleries to station website 
  • Communicate and assist the digital staff during breaking news
  • Interact with viewers through social media such as Facebook and Twitter
  • Represent the station at public events
  • Substitute anchor on all shifts, as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

  • Employee will be exposed to atmospheric conditions
  • Employee should expect substantial outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. for short distances
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, reach, grab, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.  Regularly sit, talk, and hear.
  • Work regular 40-hour work week.  Evenings and holiday work are also required, as scheduled.
